I am fortunate that this is the only unit that doesn't have a transducer with a down imaging element that I have sold. So here I am, a well respected electronics dealer/installer that isn't big enough to absorb returns on the scale that some dealers are about to see. My customer has already gotten rid of his panoptix and simply wants to sell this machine. They offered no help, explained the transducer was working as designed, and offered me a GT52 transducer at a price higher than what I can buy it wholesale for. Basically they told me the same thing that they have been telling their end-users. So this morning, I called Garmin to see what they can do for me, the dealer, so I can take care of this customer. Fortunately he is a very good customer of mine and knows I would never mislead him intentionally. I have one 93CV unit out in the field and this person is not happy with Garmin. I am a small installing dealer and nothing was said to us about the transducer differences. Keep in mind customer support and dealers have been telling customers there was NO DIFFERENCE between the old transducers and the new CV models other than a name change. Tim:In order to talk to a supervisor you will need to contact our call center at 1-80. I would appreciate speaking with someone further about it. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.ĭ:ok, thanks is there a name and number of a manager I could speak with directly about this matter because some are receiving this exchange while others are not. After looking in to this further unfortunately it appears that we are not able to exchange the transducer for you. Tim:The serial number for the transducer will suffice. Do you have the serial number for your echoMAP 73sv?ĭ:Unfortunately I do not have the S/N for the unit on me at this time. I would be more then happy to look in to this further for you. Is this something that Garmin could do for me? I understand that there has been a precedent of others doing this exchange because of the lawsuit. The unit is still new/unused in the box and I would like to exchange the CV40-TM for the GT40-TM. None of this was explained to me by the sales rep at the time of purchase and in fact I was told the new transducer was an upgrade. I have discovered that the transducer that is bundled with it is a replacement due to a legal issue with another company and the new transducer (CV40-TM) has functionality and performance reduced/handicapped compared to the original transducer (GT40-TM). These are Garmins exact words to customers asking about this today.ĭ:Hello, I chatted with a service rep yesterday about a Garmin Echomap 73sv that I recently purchased. When people got upset about being lied to and wanted to exchange their disabled/downgraded CV transducers for the real thing, they were told F-you. Garmin confirmed there was no down element. This last weekend, Lowrance exposed the lie in a video in the link above. In fact, they would show more detail than the old ones.Ĭustomer support has been telling anyone who asked that same lie for the last few months. They then told everyone that the new CV transducers were just like the old ones - it was just a name change. They didnt bother to tell any customers that. So they took the dedicated downvu element out of all their "new" CV transducers that are bundled with the echoMap series to comply with the court order. They lost a law suit with Navico because they stole some patented downview tech and refused to pay for it. I suggest you avoid them at all costs unless you are willing to deal with a company that will lie to you so they can take your money and then tell you to f-off when they get caught. I am no longer recommending Garmin to any one.
